ABSTRACT

The mass communication effect is a kind of social force that can move social processes towards
predetermined goals. Mass communication makes the world smaller, the trend of changes in
people's lifestyles not only brings the influence of globalization but also new polarizations in
various fields of life. In this study mass communication in the form of mass media, especially
social media such as the internet. There are three effects of mass communication, namely
cognitive, affective and behavioral effects. This study used descriptive qualitative method. This
study uses data collection techniques, namely observation, interviews, and documentation. The
results of this study are that the cognitive effects regarding suicide cases are known and even
often hear the news. Most of them hear about suicide cases in final year students caused by
theses on social media such as the internet, the web, Facebook, Instagram, because the internet
is the fastest place for information or news to spread, especially when news is new or viral. the
affective effect of suicide cases on final year students which is thought to be caused by the thesis
is a feeling of anxiety and fear. And the behavioral effect is that responding to suicide cases in
final-level students in the process of this thesis is by getting closer to God, family, closest people
and going through the flow of the thesis process. The role of the lecturer in the thesis process
can help students to be able to complete the thesis because getting closer to the lecturer can
make students share their complaints about the thesis and get ideas so that there is no resistance.
